Background 

The Alliance for Inclusive Education (ALLFIE) has led the lobby for change in inclusive education for over 30 years, serving as the only national Disabled people’s campaigning organisation working on this issue. 

ALLFIE’s vision is to create an inclusive society by ensuring inclusive education within mainstream settings for ALL Disabled people. We campaign for ‘a world where inclusive education is a right, not a struggle,’ and for Disabled pupils and students to be fully included in mainstream education, training, and apprenticeships, with all necessary support. We also create the resources that people and organisations need to advocate/campaign for inclusive education, training, and apprenticeships and to develop good inclusive practice. 

We support flexible working and large aspects the role could be done remotely, however some travel to attend face-to -face meetings will be required.

Purpose of the Job 

The Social Media CoLead will ensure the smooth delivery of ALLFIE’s online and social media content, to increase understanding of, and engagement with, our inclusive education campaign work. This is a production role which will focus on growth and consistency across ALLFIE’s online and social media platforms, ensuring accessibility in text, visual and audio content

JOB DESCRIPTION 

MAIN RESPONSILIITES and ACCOUNTABILITY

Key responsibilities  

1. Role responsibilities 

  • Work with the Communications Lead to implement online and social media strategy. 
  • Develop and deliver online and social media content. 
  • Develop and coordinate content plan with colleagues. 
  • Ensure ALLFIE brand and value compliance.  
  • Produce accessible, engaging online and social media content, including accessible images, text, and videos to provide value for diverse audiences  
  • Establishing relationships with social justice advocates/campaigners on inclusive education as a right for all.   
  • Work with Communications Lead to increase ALLFIE’s followers and members. 
  • Use analytics and other data sources to assess impact and efficiency of online and social media activity.  
  • Stay up to date with current technologies and trends in social media, design tools and applications. 

2. Administration and monitoring 

  • Maintain effective systems ensuring consistency with ALLFIE’s operational requirements and policies.  
  • Provide project reports and updates to Communications Lead. 

3. General responsibilities 

  • Ensure that the organisation’s policies and procedures are adhered to, including ALLFIE’s Equality of Opportunity and safeguarding policy.      
  • Work within the spirit of ALLFIE’s approaches to the social model of disability, intersectionality, lived experience, UNCRPD (on inclusive education), and ALLFIE’s principles.    
  • Carry out tasks to agreed work plans.          
  • Contribute at team meetings, to ALLFIE’s newsletter and website content.      
  • Attend internal meetings and trainings including team meetings, Away Days, Supervision, Appraisals and AGMs.    

PERSON SPECIFICATION 

Essential criteria 

Knowledge, Experience and Skills 

The successful candidate will have a positive approach to understanding and working within a small Disabled People’s Organisation. You will demonstrate knowledge, experience, and skills in the following areas: 

  • Lived experience as a Disabled person.  
  • A strong personal commitment and a genuine respect to work within the spirit of the social model of disability, intersectionality and ALLFIE’s principles.  
  • Experience of producing and publishing online and social media accessible text, audio and visual content. 
  • Experience of managing a variety of online and social media channels (e.g., Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn).  
  • Working knowledge of Canva and Adobe Creative Suite including Photoshop and Premiere Pro, or similar image or video editing software. 
  • Experience of up-to-date tools for online and social media and effective use of them.  
  • Able to generate fresh ideas for maximising engagement and impact across our online and social media channels 
  • Good team working, collaboration and problem-solving skills. 
  • Experience of working with a range of external stakeholders and demonstrating customer services skills. 
  • Ability to be self-motivating, well organised and work to deadlines.  
  • Excellent IT skills including Microsoft Office, online platforms, databases, and social media.

  • Understand and demonstrate a commitment to promote social justice, equity and inclusion.   
  • A ‘people person’ who can demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.  
  • Attention to detail and excellent organisational skills. 
  • Curious and always wanting to learn, with a commitment to personal and professional training and development. 

Other requirements 

  • Willingness to travel in and outside London and work occasional evenings / weekends. 
  • Willing to undergo a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. 
  • Responsible for own learning, ability to share good practice and experience with and learn from others. 

Desirable criteria 

  • Knowledge of the Disabled People’s Movement. 
  • Ability to use planning calendars to schedule content.
