The Equality Act sets out protection for individuals against discrimination on the grounds of age, disability, gender reassignment, marriage and civil partnership, race, religion or belief, sex or sexual orientation, covering all aspects of life in one piece of legislation.   Schools Equality Duties in relation to Age, and marriage and civil partnership do not apply to their pupils.
The Government wanted to streamline existing equality legislation so that the equality principles are universally understood and applied across all individuals who are protected by this legislation. The Equality Act:
