What you can do
The Academies Act 2010 sets out the Government’s creation of state funded independent academy (including free) schools which can be run by parents groups, charities, businesses and private education providers. These independent schools are now required to comply with the SEN legal framework alongside their duty to promote disability equality. Also Academies are required to comply within the Government’s revised Statutory Schools Admissions Code.

-

-
To make sure that all state funded schools have the same legal status and are under the same duties to promote and advance equality between disabled and nondisabled pupils.
-

-
Ensure there is good planning of good quality mainstream school provision for all disabled children and young people.
