We are a national campaigning and information-sharing network led by disabled people. We campaign for all disabled learners to have the right to access and be supported in mainstream education. ALLFIE believes that the whole education experience should be inclusive of disabled learners, both inside and outside the classroom. Disabled and non-disabled learners learning together creates opportunities for the building of relationships and the creation of an inclusive society that welcomes everyone.
ALLFIE's main focus is on the English education system and law, but we also work with partner campaigning organisations in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland as well as partners in Europe.

ALLFIE's submission to the High Needs funding reform consultation, March 2017: "An improved funding formula will have a notional benefit for both schools and individual pupils unless changes to the funding of education and Disabled pupils with SEN since the Academies Act 2010 are reviewed as a matter of course."
The deadline for responding to the Lenehan review of experiences and outcomes in residential special schools and colleges has now passed. You can read our submission here. ALLFIE believes the experience of residential special schools cannot be improved because separation from community and family fundamentally undermines the equality and wellbeing of disabled children and young people and harms society, and that parents are not given real choice to keep their children in mainstream local education.

We know disabled children are being forced into residential special schools, often far from home, because of systematic failures to provide adequate support at local level. “These schools have no place in a society that values the lifelong equality of disabled people,” says ALLFIE campaigner Simone Aspis. We were very sad to hear of the death of George Michael and extend our condolences to his friends, family and fans. ALLFIE's Chief Executive, Tara Flood said "There is no doubt that George Michael's quiet and long lasting support for ALLFIE'S campaigning work gave us the freedom to challenge the very worst that governments of all political flavours could throw at us. Twenty years of support from the Platinum Trust enabled us to stay true to our inclusive education principles."
We had a big response to the latest phase of our Educate Don't Segregate campaign, on plans for more grammar schools and greater selection, which will discriminate against many young disabled people at the transition from primary to secondary school. More grammar schools? More selection? Read our press release on the "Schools That Work For Everyone" Green Paper. "Government's selective school policy is an attack on equality and inclusion of disabled children", says ALLFIE campaigner Simone Aspis.
The United Nations has published a General Comment strengthening the shared understanding about Article 24 of the UN Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, which is the Right to Inclusive Education. So much of what the UN Statement is saying about the importance and value of inclusive education reads like any of ALLFIE's publications! This is great news at a very important time – please do all that you can to share this information. ALLFIE will be asking the Government for their response to this important clarification from the UN about how Article 24: the Right to Inclusive Education should be understood and implemented.
